History

Campton Christian Church began as an idea in the living room of Barry and Delphia Baldwin’s house in October 2003. Doug Martin, from the Kentucky Church Planting Partnership (KCPP), got together with the Baldwins and others to plan a church start up in Wolfe County.

A small group began studying the book of Acts at the Wolfe County Senior Citizen’s Center in December, 2003. On April 11, 2004 — Easter Sunday — our first worship celebration was held at 312 Main Street. There were 9 in attendance. Our first minister and church planter was Tommy Lanham. Tommy and his wife Tammy served our congregation until May 2006.

On May 7, 2006, Will Cooper arrived and preached his first sermon as our first permanent minister.

On Saturday, December 23, 2006, we held the first of what is hoped to be an annual event: a Christmas candlelight service. There were nearly 30 people in attendance.

In early 2007, a group of men under the leadership of KCPP director Doug Martin, began an eldership study. The church seeks to appoint our first elders within 1-2 years.

On September 22, 2007, after months of study and prayer, we closed on the purchase of property at 421 Main Street. The property contains a small house and about 1.5 acres. Plans call for relocating our meetings to the house by Christmas, with future plans calling for a new building on the property. Finally, a permanent location in Campton!
